Biography about Martin A. Hansen
Martin A. Hansen, born Alfred Martin Jens Hansen on 10.8.1909, grew up in a religious milieu in Strøby on Stevns. He received his teacher’s certificate in 1930. In 1935 he made his first appearance in print with the novel
Nu opgiver han, but broke definitively with the social realistic genre in 1941 when he published the adventure novel Jonatans Rejse. During the German occupation he took part the Resistance by writing articles in underground newspapers, and acquired decisive significance when in an article he justified the liquidating of informers. While writing his novels Martin A. Hansen also worked with the short story form. But it wasn’t until 1946 that he published the thoroughly composed collection Tornebusken. His last novel from 1950, Løgneren, which is also his principal work, was actually written as a serial for the Danish State Radio. He died 6/27-55.
