Biography about Henrik Pontoppidan
Henrik Pontoppidan was born 7.24.1857. He made his literary debut in 1881 with the collection of short stories Stækkede vinger (Clipped Wings). In 1889 he was awarded a Civil List 3-year grant, but in 1892 the grant was withdrawn on account of a blasphemous article in Kjøbenhavns Børs-Tidende. In 1895 his subsidy was reinstated when he was awarded a Civil List annual pension of 1000 kroner. Henrik Pontoppidan is mainly known for his short story Ørneflugt from Krøniker (Chronicles) from 1890, and the novel Lykke-Per (Lucky Per) from 1898. He was made an honorary Ph.D. at the University of Lund in 1929. Henrik Pontoppidan died 8.21.43.
