Biography about J. P. Jacobsen

J.P. Jacobsen, born 7.4.1847 in Thisted. Moved to Copenhagen in 1863. Studied at the University of Copenhagen: Cand. art. 1867; Cand. phil. 1868 (having passed the filosofikum, this being a philosophy course dealing with the basic problems of the theory of science); 1868-72 studies in natural science (botany); 1870-72 worked on a prize paper about algae (demidiace); awarded gold medal in 1873, published 1874-76; 1870-73 Darwinian-based studies. 1872 and 1875 translated two of Darwin´s books to Danish. 1873 first extensive trip abroad, outbreak of tuberculosis. 1877 second major foreign tour. 1878 third major tour. Died of tuberculosis 30.4.1885 in Thisted.
