Biography about Tove Ditlevsen
Tove Ditlevsen was born on 14 December 1917 in the Vesterbro district of Copenhagen, where she also grew up. After a basic nine-year education, she left school and worked as a domestic help or in various office jobs. In 1937 her first published poem appeared in the journal Vild Hvede. Shortly afterwards, she embarked on her first marriage, with the editor of Vild Hvede, Viggo F. Møller. She was married three more times, the last time being to the senior civil servant and newspaper editor Victor Andreasen. Besides a large body of fiction and memoirs, Tove Ditlevsen also wrote childrenīs books, numerous essays and other journalism. "The Street of Childhood", her marriages, her own psyche and a powerful mother fixation were the recurring themes which infused Tove Ditlevsenīs work. By the time she took her own life in 1976, she had achieved the status of one of Denmarkīs most widely-read authors.
