Biography about Herman Bang
Herman Bang was born 20 April 1857 on the island of Als. He attended Sorø Akademi, taking his final school leaving examination in 1875 and obtaining the degree of cand.phil. at Copenhagen University in 1877. He then worked as a journalist, writing in publications including the newspapers Dagbladet and Nationaltidende and the periodicals Ude og Hjemme and København. In 1884 he made his debut as an actor and later worked as a stage director, first in Paris in 1894 and subsequently at the Folketeater in Copenhagen 1898-1901. Bang moved around a great deal, living at various times in Berlin, Vienna, Meiningen and Prague. He died in 1912 while on a tour giving readings in the USA.
