Biography about Halfdan Rasmussen

It is hard to imagine any Danish children who have not, at an early stage in their lives, come across a text written by Halfdan Rasmussen. He was born in 1915 and published his first book, Soldat eller menneske, in 1941. Halfdan Rasmussen has had an enormous influence on Danish children’s literature. Books such as Halfdans ABC (1967), Halfdan Rasmussens Børnerim (1964) and Den lille frække Frederik og andre børnerim (1967), all illustrated by Ib Spang Olsen, continue to be reissued – and read. A glorious career came to a close with his death in 2002. If there are any children who have not encountered his words in book form, they are bound to have heard them as songs, as a large number of his rhymes have been set to music.
