Biography about Jørgen-Frantz Jacobsen

Jørgen-Frantz Jacobsen was born in Tórshavn on 29 November 1900. After his finishing his secondary education in 1916, he moved to Sorø, where he passed his A-level exams in 1919. In 1932, he received a master's degree in history and French. After his education, Jacobsen worked for a few years as a journalist. As spokesperson for the home-rule movement in the Faeroe Islands, he became quite absorbed in the historic relationship between Denmark and the Faeroes, but he also wrote about Iceland and Greenland. After a long illness, Jørgen-Frantz Jacobsen died of tuberculosis in 1938. He left behind the manuscript for the novel, Barbara, which was published in 1939. The novel excited much attention from the Danish reading public and is today an indispensable classic.
