Rød september (Red September) is a good example of the way in which genre pieces in the guise of thrillers are really able to take the age by the throat, establish an acute diagnosis and show us the way we live now, while the intellectual novel barricades itself in an egocentric game with mirrors. Rød september is an assured piece of craftsmanship, a searching criticism of the age, a splendid novel in every respect.

The 108 pages are a distillation, a concentrate packed with action, images and a gallery of characters who quickly stand out clearly on our inner screens. (...) Occasionally, we might have a feeling that it is something of an exercise in writing, but it is so throughly carried through, so clearly conceived and so well written that we can only say: If it’s an exercise in writing, then it’s worth a First.

Den åbne dør (The Open Door) comes late in the season, but it deserves a place as one of the top literary events of the year, both as a thriller and as a novel of great insight in its portrayal of real human beings.
