Reviews about Poul Vad

On Rubruk
It is a brilliant epic work of art and an impressive picture of the unresolved conflict between faith and doubt which has existed throughout the ages and still today is the problem of European man, the background to his constant crises.

Jens Kistrup in Berlingske Tidende, the 30th of September, 1972

On Rubruk
For instance, there is no doubt that long before Umberto Eco and others, Poul Vad was aware of the potential in medieval material. Neither is there any doubt that in many respects he has a far better command of, and a much clearer understanding of how to make use of the medieval universe than, for instance, Eco, above all because in the way he
utilises it he avoids drowning in details and is thus able to maintain a distance which makes it possible to see.

Ole Bruhn in Standart, vol. 4, No. 5, December/February 1990/91

On Rubruk
Poul Vad is one of the best and most overlooked authors in this country. His new, outstanding novel is both light and profound, and it ought to reach many readers. It is an ingenious fable, which with cool precision and great wisdom tells about a monk in the thirteenth century who journeys through Asia and back. And this becomes an effortlessly elegant and thoughtful exposition of philosophy and view of life… (...) You will read Rubruk again and again, and I am in no doubt that it will become a classic.

Poul Borum in Ekstra Bladet, 26 September 1972

On The Anatomy of the Cat
Poul Vad’s new novel is a masterpiece, which it is nearly impossible for a poor reviewer to write anything else about than that it is magnificent and is marvelous to read. (...) It is a tremendous, impressive, wild and deep book – and bless me it was made in Denmark!

Poul Borum in Ekstra Bladet, 6 November 1978

On North of Vatnajökull
- Poul Vad’s charming, insightful and passionate journey into Iceland with Hrafnkel’s Saga as a mental road map. (...) What Poul Vad has written, when all is said and done, is a romantic and yearning book about Iceland and the island’s classical saga world. (...) He has written a saga about a saga, and done it so well that one is almost convinced of the truth in it. In any event it is witty, entertaining and wise. In truth worth reading. But perhaps mostly as tall tales!

Henrik Wivel in Berlingske Tidende, 13 November 1994
