Excerpts from
Lundbye's Animal Fables
By Vagn Lundbye
Sparrows
All roads lead both in an out
and every beast has news to send
to carry it we fly about
and bird and fish and ape attend
We swiftly transport tiny note
from parrot to the bleating goat
When we see leopards having young
or cows out chasing cowering bird
itīs straight away on every tongue
our beaks they never miss a word
We are zoo useful for the staff
for whom we serve as telegraph
