Excerpts from
Spring Tide
By Pia Tafdrup
The cradle IDYLL
rock blue rock silver
pulls down stars
for the sleeping child
the cradle IDYLL
imitates moonlight
in the darkest nights
in the cradle IDYLL
the quilt´s a cloud
<
and the pillow the whitest wing
<
the fluffy sheet
is printed with gentle hymns
in the cradle IDYLL
the child is wrapped in cottonwool
shielded from the world
the rattle made of flowers
spreads soothing scents
the cradle IDYLL
rock blue rock silver
rocks blessed dreams
into the frailest flickering sleep
who dares wake the little one?
