Excerpts from
The Skeleton on Wheels
By Louis Jensen
On the way he meets a boy crying by the side of the road. Martin
asks him whether he has seen a dog running past.
The boy sniffs back some snot, sniffles and
glances mournfully and inquisitively up at Martin. He hasn't seen any dog.
And if it's yours, he shouts
maliciously, as Martin cycles on, then I hope it's dead!
Martin brakes and looks back in surprise.
