Excerpts from
Sinbad the Sailor
By Dina Gellert
I was now a very wealthy man living in Baghdad. But still I was drawn into another voyage by my lust for adventure. It went very badly.
We were attacked by pirates and after a tremendous struggle we were taken prisoner. We were taken to a distant land and sold as slaves at a market.
I was sold to a merchant. He took me with him into the jungle to hunt elephants. Every day he sent me out into the forest to keep watch in a tall tree. When an elephant passed I had to kill it and take the tusks home to my master. He was happy because he sold the ivory and earned a lot of money.
