Excerpts from
When Theodor Thomsen Got Wings
By Kim Fupz Aakeson
The hospital was the tallest and whitest building in town and the cleverest
doctor was Senior Consultant Kopfenklopf, right up at the top. He wore thick
glasses and was so clever that half would have been quite enough. He examined
Theodor back and front and from both sides.
“They’re wings,” he said in the end. “Two of them, to cap it all!”
“But we know that,” said Theodor’s mother and father both at once. “We just
want them taken off.”
“Yes, of course, “ said Dr Kopfenklopf, getting out his biggest syringe. “Just
you lie down on the couch, young man. Then you’ll feel a little prick in your
arm when you wake up, your horrible wings will have gone.”
“Thankheavensthankgoodness” exclaimed Theodor’s mother.
